Who tf uses "pirate streaming sites"??? Why is this even a thing. Just download your BDRemuxes via the *arr stack or paste the rarbg into you qbittorrent-nox on your nas/homelab and Jellyfin works fine.

[-] sag@lemm.ee 58 points 1 week ago

So much setup when you can just visit a website and watch shows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

In like 144p with ads. Obviously I kid with that above setup that zoomers (and I) love, you can just torrent with qbittorrent and watch in VLC like long before video streaming. Ez pz.

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 22 points 1 week ago

Imagine being on a piracy related instance and not using an ad blocker, or thinking that illegal online streams are 144p.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

Huh? I use ublock origin, sponsorblock, privacy badger, etc etc. but that's for browsing the web and YT. Not watching movies and TV shows which is what torrenting is for. I'm from a piracy instance and that's precisely why I know to do that rather than watch some dodgy "illegal online streams" site?

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago

They're about as dodgy as your illegal torrents. lol And no, those addons are for every website out there, including streaming sites.

[-] sag@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

LMAO, I use adblockers and even braflix (rip) provided content in HD. Also everyone can't have infinite bandwith and storage.

Also, opening website on Firefox with Adblock is much faster than torrenting.

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Centralized storage of pirated content is a problem. You want p2p to continue, otherwise it's suddenly very easy to deprive all of those streaming sites of content.

[-] sag@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

I know but I already stated the reason why I prefer streaming site over torrenting.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

YIFY also uses "HD". So does YT. Doesn't make it good though, unless you're watching on your phone or something.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Okay that makes sense actually, I forgot US has limited data on their main internet connections.

[-] sag@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Naah Bro India. Wi-Fi have unlimited bandwith but I am talking about cellular data.

Nah I saw people in my uni back like 2017 streaming to their iPads with ads taking up half the screen. It's the "listen to music on YouTube on school computer when your phone or MP3 player or PSP is right there" of millennial shit.

[-] teft@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Here in colombia a lot of people stream pirate sites instead of downloading a torrent. It’s just a culture thing. My guess is lack of storage space to keep torrents. Streaming goes to a cache that gets cleared out so it doesn’t take up storage.

[-] JustARaccoon@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Let them focus on the streaming sites that are a dime a dozen than go for the main sites

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah fair but we are on Lemmy. I hope no one is streaming or downloading YIFY or some shit thinking it's peak. I mean they can if they choose to but shouldn't need to with such a cool community at their disposal.

[-] wrekone@lemmyf.uk 3 points 1 week ago

I think a big part of it is that a lot of people stream on their phones. For a lot of those people, their phone is the only computer they have. So quality is less of a concern than availability. I'm all for the Arr stack, personally, but I can see how streaming has more appeal for a lot of folks.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

I didn't really consider that. Having no computer other than a phone is pretty crazy

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 1 week ago

You're not that cool if you feel the need to immediately jump to attacks and disinformation.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Huh? Where did I attack anyone, nevermind spread misinfo?

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Some people just prefer to do so, others cannot afford a VPN just yet. There’s always a reason.

For example; I usually torrent but due to just being graduated, no job yet and so no income. I’ll resort to streaming sites for now.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

always a reason

Yeah, but I've never had one so ig I'm trying to learn and maybe help some who are having trouble.

VPN? I don't think I mentioned a VPN. If your WiFi has ISP busting your balls then use a different WiFi :)

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

Wifi is local and still connects to your ISP. And in some countries, ALL your ISPs are going to snitch on you when the authorities request your personal data based on your IP.

But it's honestly hard to decipher your comments, including your very first one. You act like you're trying to be helpful, but aren't, you're just condescending and not saying anything actually useful.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

WiFi is local and still connects to your ISPs

Talk about it being hard to decipher comments, what do you even mean by this?

If you use someone else's WiFi then it will connect to their ISP with their account details and should any trouble occur it will go back to them, not back to you.

when the authorities request your personal data based on your IP.

Obviously don't hack the planet that way unless you're being 7 proxies as the cool kids used to say but for piracy or small dnm buys it's nothing.

you're just condescending and not saying anything actually useful.

Odd, I literally explained how to overcome all the issues thus far. Maybe you don't want to hear it idk why even keep replying then.

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 2 points 1 week ago

Talk about it being hard to decipher comments, what do you even mean by this?

Coming from the guy who apparently expects people to hack into other people's wifi network, like as if that's the most normal thing to do, so that they are going to get in legal trouble. Asocial much (speaking of "cool community, eh)?

Obviously don't hack the planet that way unless you're being 9 proxies as the cool kids used to say but for piracy or small dnm buys it's nothing.

"Talk about hard to decipher comments." - Please form some coherent sentences if you want to communicate with other people.

You didn't. Or it's hidden somewhere in your incoherent babbling.

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I’m just saying there’s always a reason one might use a site instead of torrenting.

Never claimed you did. I only mentioned a VPN because that’s usually the case (at least in Europe like Germany and The Netherlands) and I assume also US?

The way you responded back makes me assume you feel agitated or offended.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

Huh? No I am not agitated or offended.

Yeah, I’m just saying there’s always a reason one might use a site instead of torrenting.

And I haven't seen one yet is the thing.

Idk tbf, not needed in the UK.

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

Huh? No I am not agitated or offended.

Alright.

And I haven't seen one yet is the thing.

Yeah and you might not have “seen a reason” but others have, that’s the thing. Just because you see no reason to use it, others do. If they found a reason then it doesn’t matter whether you see a reason or not. As long as they do.

Idk tbf, not needed in the UK.

That’s great, I suppose.

Our conversation is going nowhere. It’s pretty much the same thing on repeat. So, I’ll stop responding after this message.

[-] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

No that's not really how it works? There is either a reason or there isn't, I'm trying to find out what it is, idk why you're being so nasty bro but I don't need this shit
