Make room in that top box for about five dozen Discovery episodes, give or take.
Make room in that top box for ~~about five dozen Discovery episodes, give or take.~~ Discovery.
There, I fixed it.
Unfair. There were some episodes with Pike and / or Saru that were... Never mind. Fuck it. Put it in the top box.
Any episode where Chakotay is the protagonist
What?! Hell no... Maybe in the last couple of seasons, but early on? One of the biggest travesties of Voyager was how when Seven of Nine became a regular cast member, they just kinda stopped giving Chakotay anything to do which made Beltran kinda out act and stop giving a shit.
The one where he's stuck in his own mind communicating with some aliens via a mental boxing match was really good. The character himself was awesome. It truly is a shame the writers/producers just didn't care as much as having more eye candy on screen.
Just to preface my opinion, I think it’s ok to disagree on this haha. HOWEVER I don’t think it’s much of a travesty anytime Chakotay didn’t get to have a main plot. He’s a really wooden actor (made all the more obvious by mulgrew’s strength) who was given a really poorly defined character (as you can see by the way his hobbies are, like, whatever they needed to be for the plot to move? And never the same?) And sure, the powers that be wanted eye candy… but seven did end up being a super substantial character. She had some of the best stories and made all the best characters better just by being there. She was an amazing foil!
Yeah, don't get me wrong; Seven wasn't a bad character at all. And I completely agree that Chakotay was a bit under-defined as a character. But I simply attribute that to the writers themselves not really being interested in him enough to define him better or use him more. Maybe that was because of Beltran's acting... I love theatre and such, but I can't say I'm all that good at telling good acting from bad acting... If I can believe their feelings, that's good enough for me and I always thought Beltran shows a lot of emotion in his eyes. 😅
The native American consultant they hired was a fraud and his episodes were cultural appropriation in a bad way.
I thought Chakotay had a major role in some good episodes of Voyager. I enjoyed him in State of Flux, Initiations, Maneuvers, Basics I and II, Distant Origin, Unity, Scorpion I and II, Nemesis, Year of Hell I and II, In the Flesh, One Small Step, Timeless, Shattered. Of course, Chakotay had a lot of bad episodes too. He was just written inconsistently on Voyager (which was a problem with show in general).
I somewhat agree. I don't hate Chakotay as a character. I guess what I mostly am complaining about are the faux-Native American lore ones where they failed spectacularly at representation.
TNG "Sub Rosa" goes in the top box. Right?
THERE! ARE! THREE! TYPES!!!
Definitely yes.
Finally, some Mathematically Perfect Redemption hate.
Drag thinks Peanut Hamper is boring and was glad she turned good because it meant no more Peanut Hamper episodes hopefully. Star Trek is supposed to be hopeful and PH sucks. And not in a fun way like Dukat or Janeway. She's a good example of the banality of evil.
I agree. I recently re-watched the four seasons of Lower Decks after having seen the whole series only once before and thus having forgotten many details and episodes. That Peanut Hamper episode was the only one I skipped immediately as soon as I realised which episode it was. Just awful and boring, both the episode and the character.
I think MPR goes beyond boring. I think it's an anti-masterpiece - designed to drive any viewer insane.
They systematically build you up with that Star Trek hope, only to knock you down and step on your head.
The only kind of redeeming moment is that sort of "We will go on" moment with the Areore at the end. Honestly, despite being a satirical Star Trek species in an otherwise terrible episode, the Areore were kind of fun and I wouldn't mind seeing them again.
I like "Waking Moments" (the one where Chakotay knows if he sees Earth's moon then it's not real). It's creepy!
Also I like "These are the Voyages". I await your ridicule.
So, wait, is "The Way to Eden" \(°o°)/ or (•‿•) ?
Smile, of course. I reach it, brother!
Where is TNG "Masks"? Sorry Brent, but that's gonna be a skip from me every time.
Definitely smiling Bashir just for all the weird voices Data did.
