Quit World of Warcraft recently Because I couldn't justify the subscription anymore. It's been really hard to find a game to put time into and keep my attention. I tried OverWatch 2 but that game is hot fecal matter. Stardew Valley is fun for a little while, all my friends quit though And that's who I played with. Team fortress is good I guess as well, gets repetitive though. And that game is old as heck...

So I'm like hey, you know what? I'll try deadlocked, this new early access valve game. Holy crap this is actually fun! It's like Dota or League of Legends, mixed with OverWatch. Some of the characters even mimic some of the exact mechanics of the game, for example one of the characters has an ultimate ability where you spin around in circles dealing damage to everything, like they copied it off of reaper in OverWatch. But hey, I'm not really complaining, who cares right?

Valve honestly makes some of the best games ever, every time I play one it's a banger that gets my attention for thousands of hours and this one has been so damn fun. I'm surprised more people aren't playing it, it's just crazy how fun it is and how addictive it is.

Honest question, what's with the weird URL? I'm new to Lemmy so might be confused I guess by how things work

It's a different server (instance?) of Lemmy. Lemmy isn't centralized, it's a bunch of different servers that talk to each other (federated).

It still has some kinks that need ironing out, and it could for sure use a bigger roster, but they're cooking with this one. The MOBA core and superb movement mechanics just complement each other so nicely, and with both powerful easy to use active items and ability-based heroes available it's possible to perform even if you're not an aim god.

It doesn't have skins or ranks. Nothing to hook the addicts into the LiVe SeRvIcE. Just pure fun for the sake of it.

It's still early access... Valve literally invented the hats economy, you're insane if you think they aren't going to add microtransactions to the game 🙄

Ok and? I never said they wouldn't. The game is clearly early access hence the lack of monetization.

Oh, hey! Another Ratchet: Deadlocked fan in the wild!

No wait...

Honestly, the pal versions name "ratchet: gladiator" is more fitting.

I enjoyed Overwatch. League of Legends always feels awful to play. Deadlock feels way more like League of Legends than Overwatch to me.

You should check out The Finals if you're looking for something that's a bit more OW-like. Heavy focus on objectives instead of kills, like OW. There's also lots of abilities and weapons to mix and match, so it's less of a hero shooter and more of a build-your-own-hero shooter. Made by a bunch of ex-DICE devs, so the gunplay and environment destruction are very satisfying. Completely free to play, too.

Have you played OverWatch recently? That game is a disaster. So damn boring and monetized to hell. They barely put any effort into it anymore. I'm pretty sure they have abandoned it or are about to because they realize that the community is done with them. At least with League, they have a lot of buy-in with the community and very loyal community that generally approves of what they're doing

By “Overwatch” I meant the original Overwatch. I stopped playing shortly before Overwatch 2 came out and I never played Overwatch 2.

[-] Buttflapper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Ohh fair point. I should have done that too honestly. I bought the first one. I should have stopped after they ended it

It seems cool. I know I don't have the time to get into a moba (or moba-lite) right now, but I hope it catches on and does well.

is it out yet? as an overwatch fan I'd like to try it. though I hate mobas...
