Shouldn't they begin by having content with any value?

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago

Imagine paying $4 a month for CNN. There are a lot of things not worth it in the world, and there's a lot of subjectivity even then, but this is one of the few things I think the entire planet can agree on. This ain't worth it.

I did the same.

Reminder that there’s a “lite” version of cnn that’s just a list of links and text.

https://lite.cnn.com

Same for npr

https://text.npr.org

Just for the sake of information, those are there for visually impaired people who have browsers that read text aloud to them since they may not be able to see their screen at all. All informational websites should have them and many do not. I'm honestly surprised CNN does. Not surprised about NPR.

How long before private equity buys CNN for parts?

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 1 points 1 month ago

What parts? Their organization is just employee journalists and people reading scripts in front of a camera.

[-] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Lol, now they want me to pay for their propaganda?

Who'd pay that much money to see a flood of Trump stories? No thank you.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Today's CNN is so useless, I'm doubting people will even try to pirate the content. After a year the stats on 12ft.io will still be single digits of use, and thats only because they're in the habit of reaching good new sources someone didn't realize they were trying to get over a CNN paywall.

[-] linearchaos@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I won't even follow links to them right now while they're free.

The last thing that I used CNN for was the Fukushima tidal wave/flood because they had live video before other people. But honestly their journalistic integrity is marginal.

Let's get real, there's no unique news service out there. As soon as any credible news hits any network it is automatically copied reworded and redistributed on every other service.

Remember when they tried this years ago and no one was interested, so they gave up?

This is how democracy dies in darkness... Behind paywalls.

As someone who's not from the US, what's the general opinion of Americans on CNN as a news source?

What other news channels/sources are considered trustworthy?

[-] catloaf@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago

They're factual but sensationalist. They don't lie like Fox News, but they use the same tactic of making stuff sound like a big deal so people keep watching.

[-] aleph@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago

According to this YouGov poll of least <> most trusted news sources , CNN lands bang in the middle of the pack. So not as bad as FOX, but not as high as PBS or ABC.

As for my own 2¢, all the US cable news channels are varying degrees of bad. Best to avoid, generally speaking.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I wonder why ABC is higher than CBS and NBC?

Also, I think it’s hilarious that the most trusted news source in America by far is The Weather Channel, followed by a non-American source, the BBC.

Why is this "news" worthy? This sucks
