I would love to know what substance they think he won on. Unless they mean the racism. They uh, they probably mean the racism, right?

[-] resin85@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I mean for me, just hearing him say he has "concepts of a plan" for the US healthcare system was enough for me. Get that ~~monorail~~ bill installed NOW.

[-] Kwakigra@beehaw.org 14 points 5 days ago

Since Trump repeatedly came back to racism throughout the debate regardless of context, they're definitely talking about the racism.

[-] Laborer3652@reddthat.com 3 points 4 days ago

MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of... What was I talking about?

[-] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

what substance they think he won on

Cocaine

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago

He had a concept of a substance

[-] KrankyKong@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

And it's the best substance don't you worry

[-] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Lots of people are saying it

[-] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 77 points 5 days ago

Honestly that's the minority on /r/conservative right now. Most are saying he fucked up and he's fucking up by refusing the next debate. Many are even saying it's over.

[-] noughtnaut@lemmy.world 46 points 5 days ago

Honestly, this is the most heartening thing I've read about US politics in recent years. (PS. Am not American, and not in America)

[-] deconstruct@lemm.ee 40 points 5 days ago

I saw those replies. Reality has set in. But I think they'll go back to drinking the koolaid unfortunately.

[-] Kushan@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

That whole sub works on cycles - news breaks, there's an immediate negative reaction towards trump and a couple of days later the sub finds some way to spin the whole thing.

It's fun watching them get told how to think in real time, though I'm not sure if it's done big conspiracy with some russian telling them how to think or just a collective coping mechanism.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 5 days ago

Gosh, I really hope that sense of defeat is everywhere.

[-] VeganCheesecake 43 points 5 days ago

He didn't necessarily win on substance, but he sure spoke like he took some beforehand.

[-] Zozano@lemy.lol 51 points 5 days ago

I know there are dumb cunts voting for him because they like him "owning the left", but any time I see it when they're so obviously wrong, I think it must be the Russians at it again.

[-] Arn_Thor@feddit.uk 10 points 4 days ago

To be fair, the republicans do have a lot of policies—christofascist policies—but they try to maintain deniability for the main stream while winking at their cult. It’s a tough balancing act

[-] SwingingTheLamp@midwest.social 30 points 5 days ago

Well, yeah, we all vote based on feelings. Some feelings based on things that verifiably happened in the real world, and some feelings based on ridiculous bullshit we dreamed up.

Guess which side has more of the second kind of feelings.

American Liberals: forced to vote for a neocon regime that is arming a genocide in order to avoid fascist crackdown at home

American Liberals: "It is so awesome how we're winning now"

[-] pupbiru@aussie.zone 12 points 4 days ago

it is possible for people to be simultaneously happy about furthering the aversion of fascism, racism, homophobia and sexism whilst also being unhappy that you don’t get more, better choices

[-] CondensedPossum@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

you have explained the joke very eloquently

edit for clarity: it is a very dry observational riff on the tragic irony of the situation

fascist crackdowns at home are bad, you do want to avoid that

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 18 points 5 days ago

I've never seen an original thought from a con. Every meme, every joke, every quote is just a reconfiguration of something they heard a more clever person say.

[-] tee9000@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Oh yeah feel that dopamine. This screenshot of text makes me feel superior as fuck. I was going to do something productive but it must wait because these real people interacting in this real situation need my time and judgement. Ive done a good thing here today.

[-] specularity@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

the irony of this comment is crazy lol

[-] tee9000@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

This is true...

[-] colin@lemmy.uninsane.org 2 points 5 days ago

i mean everything here is just people dunking on other people dunking on other people in the most cringe way. maybe y'all get it and are just operating on a higher level, but i can't tell. Poe's law breaks my brain. but GP gets it, i can tell that.

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago

Oh shit! You just dunked on that person so hard.

(I don't know if I should put a /s or not)

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Only thing fat orange won was the Dunce Cap of Dippiness

[-] linkhidalgogato@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

its true tho just like the republican wing of capitalist party the democrat wing votes entirely based on the vibes of the propaganda they a fed.

[-] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Meanwhile leftists do nothing but come up with creative ways to waste their votes while pretending to be superior to everyone else.

[-] AntiOutsideAktion@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

/c/self-awarewolves waking up every 4 years to condescend about how important voting for Kodos is

[-] linkhidalgogato@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

pure projection.

[-] SoJB@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

The funny part is how this is literally true lmao

[-] mindgoblin7@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

isn't the left saying this is a vibes election and it doesn't matter what her policy positions are? I could have sworn I heard that somewhere...

[-] RonnieB@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago

I heard some idiot say he has "concepts of a plan" but no actual plan the other night

[-] Albbi@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 days ago

For something he said would be ready in 2 weeks, like 4 years ago. It's a grade school level excuse for not doing a homework project.

[-] klep@lemmy.ml 13 points 5 days ago
[-] gentooer@programming.dev 7 points 5 days ago

You must be wrong. 2015 is at most a few years ago...

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

concepts of a plan

That sounds like the name of a Yankee candle scent.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago

To clarify, Harris is being mindful of "the vibes" because it's something her predecessors neglected. Doom and gloom does discourage turn out, on both sides, and it seems to be working. This isn't zero sum with substance, and she has made clear some policy positions (and more at than Trump, unless you count Project 2025). You can do multiple approaches to appeal to multiple audiences.

[-] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Of course it is - the median voter seems to have all the brains of an ox - half of them still have Trump as their gender identity. People would like to think they're better than that, but the outcomes beg to differ.

Trump's only asset has been his vibes. He (and the GOP broadly) are an utter failure on anything of substance - their contempt for voters is clear in their policy. Problem is that his vibes are collapsing at an exponential rate.

Dems undeniably have the substance (only relatively speaking), but their contempt for voters fucks their vibes. The GOP is now so obviously unhinged they've seen an opportunity, and un-fucked their vibes.

Getting the job is mostly the vibes, doing the job is mostly the substance - and the current winner on both fronts is pretty fucking straightforward. It'll still be a toss-up, sadly.

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

At least Harris has policy positions and a corresponding agenda. Trump has none of that, at least nothing that he could talk about in public. Did you not watch the debate? Did you not notice that he made no factual arguments whatsoever, but responded to every question on every topic with the same old empty polemics and unfounded recriminations?

[-] mindgoblin7@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I noticed that he was debating both of the moderators and Harris who also dodged all meaningful questions asked by the moderators. She's literally the sitting VP. All of the things she's campaigning to fix she can literally solve right now. Many of the things she is blaming trump for are problems that the Biden administration caused She had zero policy positions until last week when she put them up on her page. Almost all of her policy positions are a complete 180° turn from what she was saying as recently as 1 month ago. Are people really this incapable of thinking critically about anything ? As just 1 example: She was JUST doing press conferences saying how the economy is incredible and "bidenomics is working " but now she's saying the economy is the worst it has been since the great depression and somehow that's trump's fault when it started literally as soon as her and Biden took office? This is such an insult to people's intelligence, and yet somehow people are still eating this stuff up. do you think I don't notice that gas is easily 2x as expensive as it was when trump was in office ? How on earth could this be his fault ? Even if it was, why can't you fix it while you're in office now?? I don't think I could believe this BS if I wanted to. I think all around the debate sucked on both ends, they were essentially just taking turns calling each other liars.

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

You can't be serious.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 7 points 5 days ago

Nice try troggie, but slightly imperfect policies are still better than the fucking return of Hitler.

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

A policy to continue supplying weapons to a genocide is not a slightly imperfect one, it is a genocidal one.

[-] deconstruct@lemm.ee 5 points 5 days ago

So that's why Trump should win right? Because it'll be better for Palestinians?

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

I'm what world do you not see Trump digging in even deeper than Harris on that front?
