I was taught to read left to right, top to bottom…which is not universal, but pretty common wherever this sign would be relevant

Sir, this is NoSafetySmokingFirst. Here, we read top to bottom, left to right.

I both understand and don’t. I can appreciate your ways though. Cheers!

Not quite. That would be read the other way around. Explanation here.

True. I was referring to the original subreddit which this community is alluding to.

I can see why there would be confusion. here in the States, it's regarded that stripping is the last resort to being homeless.

The sign reads left to right, top to bottom, and it tells the tale of chicken (personafied) doing whatever it takes to make ends meet.

Chicken loses their job, then goes flat broke, then finally works as a stripper for dirt cheap.

Welcome to NoSafetySmokingFirst!

For images where the text reads correctly left to right, but visual cues (like colouration, vertical proximity, or horizontal separation) lead you to try to read it top to bottom.

This is similar to, but distinct from, the more widely known “DontDeadOpenInside” format. In that case, the text reads correctly top to bottom, but visual cues (like colouration, horizontal proximity, or vertical separation) lead you to try to read it left to right.
