Recently it has come to my attention that the instance where my account is located rammy.site has been taken over by right wing bigots from the site exploding-heads they have created many hateful communities and have started posting transphobic content and climate denial. There's also quite a bit of community spam on here.

I very strongly advocate that the admins of this instance defederate from rammy.site as soon as humanly possible to stop the spread of their toxic shit to other instances.

Right-wing losers = forum cancer.

I took a look and it's like 3 people yelling into the void over there. Hardly worth all these defederation posts I see. Just block and move on, no?

IMO if the admins have obviously abandoned an instance it's worth de-federating regardless of activity level or political lean. It's a ticking time bomb for malicious links, spam, political trolling, and other bullshit.

Ya, I can understand that argument at least. The OP gave me "people are saying mean things over there and I don't like it" vibes which just feels cringe.

Things that amount to "trans people shouldn't exist" or "trans people shouldn't get medical care" are more than just "mean".

Eh, I see a lot of hostility and threats that are allowed so long as they are against the correct groups. Less hostility all around would be nice; thicker skin helps bridge that gap.

Reading the comments section of any right wing forum is always... Eye-opening.

They turn on each other as soon as no one else is around to attack. Good riddance.

They turn on each other as soon as no one else is around to attack. Good riddance.

They were never together. They are full of hatred, they don't care what the person on the other side believes.

When your entire personality is to spread such hatred, you're never going to get along with anyone.

That's why right wing losers are so abusive to women. Usually you get married to someone you love and care about, but it seems like they just get married so they can make sure everyone knows they totally aren't gay!

We should create a publicly maintained list of instances people should defederate from.

[-] elbarto777@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I think you can see this list on each instance. It's not a central one, but it's a start.

Seems like a huge step like defederation should be reactive instead of proactive. If rammy or any other instance becomes a source of spam or abuse here then it makes sense to defederate. But I don't think it makes sense just because they have some controversial users or communities but are keeping it to themselves. (btw rammy.site appears to be down)

I haven't seen anything from that instance, and I am not going to go there and see for myself because I don't seek out sources of outrage. Defederation seems like a drastic first step.

Ran across one of their posts on the local feed here and I have to agree, we should defederate.

[-] Screwthehole@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

When I go there the newest post is 2 months old. Don't think it's relevant?

[-] zkfcfbzr@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

The top two posts are 2 months old because they're pinned by the admin - but below those you'll see the newer posts.
