And it works with google cast out of the box!

Supports downloading a server transcoded file? That's amazing!

Would like to see an Fdroid version

[-] snugglebutt 17 points 1 year ago

You can just use Obtainium with the gh releases link

[-] semperverus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I too would rather have an F-droid version instead of having to use Obtainium. There is additional inherent trust by going through F-droid's process.

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 1 year ago

FYI Jellyflix also supports that

[-] bonn2@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

Findroid also recently added this

[-] Chewy7324@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

Transcoding and transcoded downloads does not seem to be merged yet, altough there's a working PR.

https://github.com/jarnedemeulemeester/findroid/pull/791

[-] bonn2@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Ah yeah I forgot I was running the bleeding version, either way it will probably be stable soon ish

[-] eskuero@lemmy.fromshado.ws 12 points 1 year ago

From what I understand its still restrained by the server in real time so downloading a 2 hour movie would still take two hours 🥲

[-] DaGeek247@fedia.io 5 points 1 year ago

Is this a bug, or is it actually just limited to the transcode speed? I would love to read the incident/bug report about this.

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago

It's limited to the transcode speed, but it's important to keep in mind that e.g. if you transcode to a lower resolution especially it'll usually transcode faster than realtime.

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Then it shouldn’t be limited. I can transcode a movie faster then I watch it even at higher quality.

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Right, I just mean if your connection speed is faster than your server can transcode, then the transcode speed will be the bottleneck

[-] n0xew@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Looks nice, I'll give it a try! There's also a Jellyfin community, don't hesitate to crosspost there :)

[-] harsh3466@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

Awesome! Just joined the test flight. Love the app icon.

[-] tempest@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

I've been trying fin Droid which works well but it's definitely a work in progress.

[-] kingcake@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Play store link is broken :(

[-] Swarfega@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Wonder if it's a region thing. Not there for me either (UK).

[-] kingcake@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Possibly. There is an apk on the GitHub that you can sideload for now.

[-] kaotic@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

AppleTV client at some point?

[-] ji17br@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Is there currently any? This is the only reason I’d consider moving from plex.

[-] g5pw@feddit.it 4 points 1 year ago

There’s SwiftFin, but it’s been a while from the last update (iOS app was updated recently though) and there’s a number of issues. It’s usable though (I’m using it).

[-] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

There’s the official Jellyfin app for Apple TV. It works very well with only minor UI bugs when browsing libraries. Nothing that detracts from or reduces the quality of the service.

[-] accideath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Surround sound didn’t work for me with the Jellyfin player and with the native player language selection didn‘t work. If you don’t have to transcode and spare a few quid, Infuse is great. Sadly can’t recommend it to my friends accessing my server from outside my home network because of said lack of transcoding.

[-] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but I use Infuse on the ATV for the times the Plex client can't play a file, usually because it's DV format.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Fantastic to have more selection! I love Findroid but its good to have alternatives!

Edit: downloaded it from Github but cannot connect to my server with same credentials I use in the official app, hm.

Edit2: OK, others have same issue https://github.com/fredrikburmester/streamyfin/issues/12

Edit3: they just released a fix

fix(android): Support for un-secure plaintext authentication (HTTP) logins

So I will test it again tonight when I have time.

[-] stom@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Yayyy unsecured connections for logins.

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago

My server isn't exposed to the outside. I am connecting through local WiFi. If someone manages to get in there I probably have bigger problems than access to my Jellyfin.

[-] suckmyspez@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

A non issue for servers hosted at home that aren’t exposed externally

[-] lastweakness@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

If you test it, can you let me know how it compares to Findroid?

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

OK, it works now so I had a look.

At this stage no match for Findroid, but I like the layout of it.

When you play a file it somehow starts playing minimised and you need to tap it it goes full screen.

No automatic rotation, so you need to do it manually.

Haven't tried the downloading yet and I have no Chromecast to test casting with.

In a couple of updates it might be decent enough already for general use.

[-] lastweakness@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Ooh, that's promising. I guess I'll try it once it matures a bit more then. Thanks for going through the trouble of reviewing it!

[-] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

Once it works, sure. Will need to wait for a fix first.

[-] Krafting@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

New Jellyfin app ? I'm all for it!

[-] rainynight65@feddit.org 6 points 1 year ago

Support for downloading and Chromecast? Sign me up.

[-] couch1potato@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

The jellyfin app has both already... not sure what you're on about?

[-] rainynight65@feddit.org 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Last time I checked, on iOS it didn't have either.

Edit: just checked, the iOS version still doesn't have downloads and does not support casting to Chromecast.

[-] couch1potato@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago
[-] kolorafa@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Does it support intro skip?

[-] rezz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Joined the TestFlight!

[-] Imhotep@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Crash on degoogled phones (dev is already aware)

[-] gazoinksboe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

The app works well enough but was unable to watch anything I downloaded offline on iOS. Has anyone experienced this and found a fix? I downloaded from the App Store, not Test Flight.

[-] gazoinksboe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

He actually patched it already. WOW!!! So happy to have offline transcoded files back after leaving Plex!

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Just tried it and it didn’t work for me:

Could be a version issue
