The linked post essentially performed a benchmark of lemmy apps and if they properly display the formating options available. Sync got 3rd last place, position 18 out of 20 apps, with a score of 6.9 out of 10. There's a comment that essentially contains the test set. I hope we get some fixes, cause some of the problems have been around for a while.

In my personal experience the issues with spoiler tags, and some of the embedded images and their sizes is rather annoying. For example this comment shows perfectly fine on desktop, but becomes a garbled mess on sync (as you can tell by my comment, blaming the bot). Also note that while sync technically gets 3/3 for the images, the last image should be text-sized between the "arrows". It isn't, it's just huge (and consequently a pixelated mess).

Edit: fixed link to example comment for spoiler.

The spoiler tag issue is an especially big problem as it comes up a lot. I still can't let go of Sync as it looks and feels the best, but it would be nice if this stuff got fixed.

Yeah the new media bias bot that posts on many communities uses formatting that looks fine on Lemmy UI but weird in sync

I really hate bots like that. I know the creators mean well, but posting on everything just makes it meaningless.

There is actually evidence that the creator does not mean well at all. And it very well might be a propagandizing bot that is trying to shift the Overton window by labeling center and right leaning media as left biased.

Right? And it makes it a lot harder to know which posts actually have comments. I wish it showed none if the only comment is a bot I've blocked but I understand that could be more work than it'd really be worth. It's relatively minor.

Had to block the bot because it was so obnoxious. Good to know it's sync causing the issue.

I've noticed the weird formatting stuff when people try to spoiler mark stuff but it's not marked at all, what's the other strange formatting it fails at?

Also still waiting for swiping a post away to show the previous page instead of a black void but that's super minor! Otherwise I really like Sync

Can you include a dollar sing in a code block yet?

$testing. 12$

Yes, but superscript doesn't fully work and subscript doesn't at all.

I noticed that too, but considering that list, with no exaggeration, resulted in the deletion of an app, I wasn't going to mention it. Lj knows.

Raccoon for Lemmy dev got so discouraged following the post that they quit development of the app and deleted the repo and community. Straw that broke the camels back kind of thing. I'd link the post but it's gone along with the community.

Edit: aw they deleted their whole account now too :/

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I'd definitely say that was a last straw thing. Raccoon needed a lot of love and I think it was just a PoC. It would kinda work but it certainly had a long way to go.

Oh dang, that's kinda wild.
