I guess there is currently no community for Europe related memes, maybe this could be a place to post some?

I'd put the memes rather in c/YUROP

But that seems to be less a place for memes than c\europe.

I'd second trolske's thought. !yurop@lemm.ee seems like a better fit for memes, as it's a more light-hearted community.

If someone wanted to create an equivalent of c/eur_irl, that would be interesting too though.

I see they've lately had some trends around food and architecture, but I assure you that traditionally, yurop is the meme community, where anything goes, while this one is more serious and less appreciative of memes.

Please don't post memes here. Not every community needs to have memes.

It is like that in Hungary. 80 to 90% of the prices here in Germany, but 10000€ annual income is middle class.

IDC, had a good laugh through dropping tears

I would say no, but maybe the other mods here feel different about it?

I made !2visegrad4you@szmer.info a while back, although it is currently dead

But Germans famously go to Poland and Czechia for shopping

That hasn't made economical sense for most products in quite a while. They still go, because taxes on gas and cigarettes are still lower, and I guess you can still get cheap haircuts.

don't forget the vietnamese markets that sell knock-off products. Plenty of people still buy their "branded" clothing there for a fraction of the price of an original item.

[-] Louisoix@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

That depends. Most of the people I know (Czechia) go to Germany almost weekly for most of the essential products. Even if some prices might be the same, the quality is on a completely different level.

That's interesting, what's the average salary in eastern Europe? Average seems to be fairly high compared to India as far as I know.

I would prefer you ask for a specific community to be created with its own rules and moderators. Thanks! I wouldn't mix everything in here.

Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)

(This list may get expanded when necessary.)

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.
