Dog-sized dinosaurs are one of the most popular animals on the planet right now, so much so that they're the default flavor "everything tastes like."

[-] Soggy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I don't think chickens are usually referred to as "dog-sized" even if it's occasionally true.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah I mean, I know dogs come in a wide range of sizes, but I feel like default dog is a lot bigger thanks default chicken.

*eyes white shepard dog*

Man, animal protection organisations weren't kidding when they said poultry chickens are MASSIVE

[-] illi@lemm.ee 34 points 1 year ago

Would dogs be more popular if they were big as dinosaurs though?

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

Clifford was pretty popular for a dog book.

[-] herrcaptain@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

But if all dogs are as big as dinosaurs, then Clifford is no longer special. He's no longer Clifford the Big Red Dog. He's then just Clifford the Normal Sized Red Dog. I just don't think he'd be as big of a deal in that universe.

I guess he's still got the red thing going for him?

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

But he's a dinosaur-sized dog that is arguably more popular than most non-dinosaur-sized dogs.

Those elephant-sized sloths seem pretty cool.

[-] dudinax@programming.dev 24 points 1 year ago

There were a lot of dog sized dinos and nobody cares about them, which means you're right!

confused screaming

[-] Klear@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Microraptors, even.

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Which they made bigger in Jurassic Park, so that's actually proving the point. A bigger raptor species was only discovered after the first movie.

[-] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 1 points 1 year ago

Doesn't it demonstrate that the actual dinos in real life don't have to be big to be popular, because humans will simply portray them how they want to see and bring interest in the species regardless?

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

They'd be popular, sure. But no way as popular and in public imagination as all the behemoths.

Like, there were a ton of dog-sized dinosaurs. You've never seen or heard of most of them.

[-] cupcakezealot 7 points 1 year ago

i mean have you seen how popular corgies are?

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

More than Dinosaurs? I'm not sure what planet you are on but we all like Earth Dinosaurs

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I know lots of people that own corgis. I don’t know anyone that owns a dinosaur. Guess that means corgis are more popular?

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

Everyone who is cool has a stuffed dinosaur. Prove me wrong

[-] cupcakezealot 2 points 1 year ago

the queen never had a raptor but she had many corgies checkmate

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t know anyone that owns a dinosaur

I do. It's somewhat more common with people living in more rural areas than in the city, but I'd guess they're the third most popular pet after cats & dogs.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 year ago

I think it has more to do with them being one of the oldest discoveries

[-] NegentropicBoy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Triilobites weren't that big and they aren't that big.

[-] Coskii 4 points 1 year ago

I dunno. I grew up around a lot of horned lizards and they are awesome. Bump them up to small dog size and they'd still be awesome, though significantly more dangerous.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
