I still remember when Big Data was the "hot new buzz word". Millions spent to collect every time a customer farts. What did we do with that info? Nothing really. Except be ready to apologize when it gets leaked.
Tech companies are richer than some entire nations.
Data is literally the new gold and you can bet your profile is being sold and bought for all kinds of statistical analysis.
To what areas to send flyers, what voting region to draw. From how likely you are to become a potential terrorist. If you have a pattern of consuming that can be reinforced showing an ad at the right time. Or if you have such low income and high debt they don't need to bother except if they are a predatory money lending service, then they may give you a personal call.
If there exists data on it then businesses are made specifically to exploit that data.
But of course you’ll never see or hear what happens to your specific data. Your not supposed to know your being mined for profit and sold to the highest bidding manipulator.
Of course that is being used. What do you think the user profiles of the ad-tech by Google and Facebook are being trained on? Big data ist just tech to manage all that data they generate by spying on us.
Problem with big data is that it takes a lot of time and effort to sift through it to get any value out of it.
Companies dream that they can enable predictive maintenance by using the big data from your collected data, but in reality its easier said than done, so they end up failing because of the price.
And I doubt the current level of AI can provide better results than a bunch of search parameters, I would be worried if the result is hallucinated, and still need some search parameters to verify the result.
All that info is sitting in some dusty database mostly unused.
The thing is, the outcome of big data is not any one defined thing as well as not any one defined goal. This is why AI is being pushed for everything since we dont know if they can do it unless we try.
I wouldn't be surprised if the customer fart data is used to help diagnose medical issues.
I don't really understand this meme. I mean I think I understand what it wants to say. I just don't get how it thinks saying it this way is clever.
My interpretation is that companies will spend a lot of effort analyzing human behavior, to find underlying motivations and trends, but won't apply that analysis to themselves as a business and ultimately just pursue the line going up no matter the consequences.
That's probably spot on. Thank you
Yeah, it's specifically because they're trying to increase profits for so long that they need to get so incredibly meticulous and complicated with how their business works. Companies that just try to earnestly provide a desired service to people who need it in their area of operation don't need to worry about such details.
But surely that message would be better as the sobbing wojack facing off against the square-jawed chad?
What am I doing with my life? I should go outside.
Yeh. I'm right there with you.
They're the same picture
AI might actually be better to replace the CEO role than a lot of the individual contributors. If you could train it on the decisions and outcomes of all the companies out there (this if the hard part, admittedly) then it could come up with strategies that produce better results then humans, even if the decisions seem strange.
Maybe it could even be told it has to act ethically! (Share holders enter the chat am I right)
Still feels like companies barely know me and their algorithms to suggest new products to me all feel mostly braindead.
In the grimdark cyberpunk dystopia of the future, corpros fear only one man.
The Man Who Can Not Be Sold A Subscription Service
I’ve worked with business majors on products. The process is so comically and transparently fake and veneered in every way. These people would sell their mothers for a dollar. They feel nothing while working to subvert society and anything generally good in this world.
right now
Only just recently?
Line goes up in relation to how successfully the corporation pursues the agenda of those with power (read: money).
Stock price --> reward function
Surely, there is no possible better system.
Not so much Infinite growth. More about gaining as much money and power as possible as soon as possible, the future be damned.
Man, if you think the current executives are bad...
...now imagine removing human emotion entirely. If an AI runs a company, it may reach the conclusion the best way to maximize quarterly profits is to harvest all of their employees organs. Child labor is the cheapest. Russia pays the most for userdata. Etc...
Corporations already act like AI, they do whatever they think they can get away with
Yes. Hail our corporate overlords for they could be unfeeling, uncaring artificial intelligence overlords instead. We are blessed.
Failure is not an option. Lets do this!!!!
