  • Police paused their search Sunday but found Campbell's body just before 10 a.m. local time the following day. Divers retrieved the body approximately 100 feet (30 meters) from shore at a depth of about 8 feet (2.4 meters). MSPNews (b)
  • Police also said that the Obamas were not at their Martha's Vineyard residence when the incident occurred. MSPNews (c)
  • The Obamas released a statement calling Campbell “a beloved part of our family” who had an “ability to bring people together.” CNN

Pro-establishment narrative:

  • This tragedy appears to be a paddle-boarding excursion gone horribly wrong. Local police are investigating the death, but at this stage, it appears it was an accident.

Establishment-critical narrative:

  • The details surrounding this death are suspicious. Campbell was a seasoned swimmer, and there’s no explanation for why he would go into the lake at such a late hour. More mysteriously, he was not the first White House chef to drown. All angles must be investigated in detail.

**What's establishment bias?** The establishment view is what all big parties and powers agree on, which varies between countries and over time. For example, the old establishment view that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote was successfully challenged. ITN makes it easy for you to compare the perspectives of the pro-establishment mainstream media with those of smaller establishment-critical news outlets that you won’t find in most other news aggregators. Improve The News is a free news aggregator and news analysis site developed by a group of researchers at MIT and elsewhere to improve your access to trustworthy news. Many website algorithms push you (for ad revenue) into a filter bubble by reinforcing the narratives you impulse-click on. By understanding other people’s arguments, you understand why they do what they do – and have a better chance of persuading them.
