Yes, the old Starr Wars [cool typo] Expanded Universe was a bit of an odd duck, and you can maybe see why Disney shunted it to the side in favor of a new continuity.
The smug flippancy of this writer, good lord. That preamble’s tone towards the EU was entirely unnecessary for an article on a game mod.
Yeah that first line irritates me. What is weird about Mara Jade? She was great and the Thrawn Trilogy should be episodes 7-9.
I assumed it was rage bait, especially considering what Disney produced on the paved-over space where the EU canon used to be.
"We're wiping the canon back to just the movies to have room to tell stories in this great universe."
Thirty minutes later...
"So now hyperspace takes moments and you don't need to bother with coordinates. Hell, you can jump through shields and into and out of atmospheres."
Welp, new continuity is now fucked beyond repair.
"Oh remember when we said we were gonna disregard the entire EU? Well now we're gonna go back and pick and choose from those corpses what we like and Frankenstein it in anyway."

Yeah, that was a hilarious bit. But the expanded universe had his blessing. She also appeared in games made by Lucasfilm.
I loved JK:MOTS & JK:DFII, they made my childhood.
DF2 was the first game I played online. I still have some friends I met doing that.

I forget what book it was, but i remember the sith staging an assault on Luke’s Jedi school they surround Luke and said “we have control of the temple, there is no place to run jedi” and Luke just asked “what temple?” And crushed them with the rocks he held aloft, i thought it was the coolest thing ever.
But it’s ok i guess, because troopers fly now…
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the Thrawn Trilogy was all that good. Still, it was about a billion times better than what Disney gave us.
I disagree, but you're entitled to your opinion same as everyone else. There were a lot of bad EU materials and the Thrawn trilogy was a high water line.
That said, it fell prey to being yet another fucking super-weapon and dark Jedi story. It's quintessential Star Wars but so played out.
Weird that it was another one when it predated most of them...
It didn't predate the original freaking trilogy... which did it twice in three movies.
I read the new Thrawn book after hearing such great things about the old EU ones and it was bland, boring, predictable, and unmoving.
No more spoilers than necessary by mentioning it, but young me had his mind blown with how you won the final battle in that game.
