I somehow suspect someone at that shell of a company is experiencing a delightful amount of schadenfreude

Would be interesting, but I'm not sure how you'd implement it in a federated system unless each instance sets up payment platforms. And it wouldn't stop instances from giving them out for free

That would really be great. For 2 dollars a month, you get one free daily award. That alone would solve the server costs.

there are all kinds of interesting ways to help monetize these servers, i am def a fan of discord style "extras"

Could just give supporters a badge or something, haha

I like the concept of awards because it's a nice way to

  • quickly identify really good comments
  • support the instance in a sustainable way

However (this might be controversial), I'm not a huge fan of meme awards. Reddit kind of incentivizes people to write meme responses which kind of pollutes threads. Maybe we can dial back a bit on that.

Honestly I agree. I think Gold was enough, though the extra meme awards probably bring in quite a bit of money

Did anyone get a comment from Kevin Rose?

[-] kdegeek@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 years ago

I would love to know what he's thinking right now

Digg may be in a cardboard box on a sidewalk but they're having a great day.

[-] grumpychocobo@infosec.pub 3 points 2 years ago

Not going to happen...but it would be kinda hilarious if the Reddit crap led to a reemergence of Digg.

If anyone is left around at Digg that was there in 2010 then ya know, good for them this week. But otherwise, my god, I pity them.
