Johnson initially sought to run for re-election; however, following disappointing results in the New Hampshire primary he withdrew his candidacy.

He withdrew in March. Biden withdrew in July. That's 50% less time until the election. Four months is a lot of time to have been campaigning, not to mention all the primaries and delegates locked in.
