Why are my subscriptions stuck on "pending"? (sh.itjust.works)

Some of my subscriptions to lemmy communities (including this one) have been stuck on "pending" for a month and do not show up in my subscription feed.

What's up with that?

I fixed this on some communities by unsubscribe and subscribing again (after the instances updated to 0.18.X)
