This one is hard. I'm thinking of a bunch of survival games.
I think the Far Cry/assassins creed games also have you kill a bunch of animals to upgrade your clothes. Like Kill 12 endangered whales to hold 2 more revolver rounds or something ridiculous.

the core gameplay loop is kill monster -> craft stronger equipment out of its corpse -> kill stronger monster -> repeat, and eventually you're killing these things just because the armor they make looks so good.
