Wait. Do you people just throw dishes in the wash without rinsing them first?

[-] bighi@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago

The washing machine does it for you.

It would be like vacuuming your house by yourself before your Roomba turns on.

Unethical product idea:

A “dishwasher” that’s really cheap. Why, you ask? Well, because you need to rinse your dishes thoroughly before using the dishwasher.

In reality it’s just a box with a speaker so that it sounds like a dishwasher. If any customer complains, just tell them that they need to pre wash their dishes better.

Y'all trust your Roombas?

I got another Roomba just to keep the other one honest (and rescue missions).

Watching a friend's house and literally just had to rescue a Roomba that somehow jammed itself under a cabinet, and it was in there good.

Modern dishwashers don't need you to rinse first

My dishwasher is pretty new and if I don’t rinse things off relatively thoroughly beforehand I’m guaranteed to have stuck on food bits after the dry cycle.

You should watch this lovely video from TechnologyConnections: https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04

Big fan of his channel. Just watched him talk about a retro-aesthetic fridge for an hour a couple days ago.

[-] Nugget@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

He's awesome. I hope his dishwasher videos can help you out!

I'm still trying to find the time to commit to what is most likely the most enjoyable hour long video about a refrigerator I will ever see. Looking forward to it!

Put soap in to be used on the pre wash cycle too. I use powder and put some in the dispenser and some on the door right before I close it.

I very rarely have any problems with stuck on food bits save for some really difficult stuff like herbs that were in oil that sat out for a day or two and dried. But then leaving it in for another cycle always finishes the job.

[-] Raxiel@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Mine doesn't, although if I do I can run the quick cycle for less than half the energy of the full cycle and still have perfectly clean dishware at the end

[-] s_s@lemmy.one 14 points 1 year ago

The entire point of a dishwasher is that it sacrifices a little bit of electricity to save A LOT of water.

Pre-rinsing is antithetical.

[-] hikaru755@feddit.de 14 points 1 year ago

Yeah. That's what you're supposed to do with modern dishwashers. Scrape off any leftovers, but rinsing is unnecessary and just wastes water.

[-] Ghoti@lemmy.fmhy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

I’m with you, my dishwasher is more of a sanitation device than a washer.

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.
