Adding to the mountain of evidence that Israel is engaged in a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera on Thursday aired footage of what the news outlet reported was an Israeli drone targeting four Palestinians in Khan Younis last month.

Those killed by the unmanned aerial vehicle in the rubble of the southern Gaza city appear to be unarmed teenagers or young men. According to a translation of the coverage, they were not identified in the reporting.

A confusing thing for me about this report is ..... where did this footage come from? Was this actual footage from an Israeli drone? Was it footage from someone else who filmed the strike?

I fully support the Palestinians and completely abhor what the IDF is doing but I'm completely at a loss as to where this footage came from.

Are the Israelis that callous as to freely release footage this graphic and blatantly horrific for the public to see? Or was it secretly acquired? Or is this footage from someone else in some other way?

It's absolutely horrible that this is even happening .... it's somehow even more horrible to have footage of the actual acts happening and it's aftermath and the world generally just not reacting to any of it.

This isn't an Israeli problem .... we're all complicit in making this possible .... and we're all complicit in allowing it to continue.

We haven't evolved ... we're no better than our ancestors a thousand years ago ... we're just more efficient about how terrible we can be to one another.

I'm not exactly an atheist .... I believe in something in my own way without following any religion or in wanting to force any of my beliefs on anyone.

But if there is evidence for the absence of God and the folly of Christian/Jewish/Muslim (Judeo-Christian) religions ..... what's happening in Palestine affirms that all these religions are just runaway historic cults that are absolutely destroying our world.

This is just western settler colonialism as we've seen for the last few centuries. This region is a bridge between the Middle-East and Africa, and serves as a great base for imperial core countries like the US to destabilize the Middle-East and keep them from uniting.

Its formation used common british colonization tactics [III], with companies literally named "Colonization Commission", "Jewish Colonial Trust" and the like.

Theodor Herzl, founder of the colonial ideology he called "zionism", was himself also just a racist colonizer by his own admission, and saw it as bringing ‘civilization’ to ‘barbarians’ as the rest of Europe did when they were colonizing and enslaving Africa and Asia:

“We should there form a portion of a rampart of Europe against Asia, an outpost of civilization as opposed to barbarism. We should as a neutral State remain in contact with all Europe, which would have to guarantee our existence.” Source [II]

Only difference now is that the US has been the de facto leader of the imperial core since WW2, no longer UK in Europe.

If there is one thing this is showing very clearly, is that Israel never evolved beyond the racist thinking of the early XXth century and the same for all those countries unwaveringly supporting it because it's "the Jewish Nation".

The mindset of Nazism is still alive and well, just more dissimulated and with a different list of ubermenschen and untermenschen.

I'm not sure what Islam has to do with a Jewish settler colony, but go on I guess.

Are the Israelis that callous as to freely release footage this graphic and blatantly horrific for the public to see?

Absolutely. There's something off-putting about how casualized the brutality is when you see what they willingly post to social media.

[-] Silverseren@kbin.social 33 points 7 months ago

I mean, individual IDF soldiers have been uploading this sort of thing to their social media the whole time. They seem perfectly happy and proud of such footage.

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 23 points 7 months ago

Are the Israelis that callous as to freely release footage this graphic and blatantly horrific for the public to see?

Yes, because they know they won't suffer any consequences so long as the US is backing the colony.

They're full indoctrinated with an ultra-racist mindset, quite similar to how the Nazis indoctrinated a large part of the German population.

I mean, it's extremelly usual to hear somebody from the Israeli government say that "Palestinians are violent" (not Hamas, Palestinians) which the very kind of group blame myths as the Nazis spewed.

And then there is the whole "human animals" from an Israeli minister. Consider what kind of environment there must be in a country for an actual government minister to think it's fine to describe an entire people like that.

True Evil is not the cartoonish "being Evil on purpose because you want to be Evil and knowing you're being Evil", it's this shit: reasonably normal people (possibly but not necessarilly low on empathy) who have been brainwashed (in this case, probably since they were children) to see entire groups of people as "members of a group", not as persons, belive some "we have to get them before they get us" rationale which goes unquestioned and has been stretched way beyond any logic, and whose view of those "group members" has been so dehumanized that "putting then down" like one would do a rabid animal is not only acceptable but actually a point of pride.

Indoctrinated people like this have no shame in displaying their acts of barbary because in their minds such actions were good and righteous actions of putting down rabid animals "to defend ourselves from them".

So for them to parade this, if only for each other, makes all sense: they don't see their actions as Evil, quite the contrary, and they have pride in them and know many/most others in their country think just like them and will look up to them when they see what they've done.

I am also confused why there is footage focusing of people who were going to get killed.

[-] Hotzilla@sopuli.xyz 9 points 7 months ago

This whole shitshow works in a way that Israel leadership benefits about the terrorist attacks created by Hamas, so they want to do everything to fuel the fire, there is no loss for them in these war crimes. Israel needs to be sanctioned, not only give slap to the wrist.

[-] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago

Okay, but where is this video from?

[-] Hotzilla@sopuli.xyz 12 points 7 months ago

Drone that is used to guide the missile, and released by Israel

[-] gnuhaut@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 months ago

Apparently the Al Jazeera voiceover says it's Israeli drone footage. Which makes sense, this is exactly how surveillance footage observing an attack looks like (just look at videos released by Russian and Ukrainian forces blasting each other).

Maybe people shared that around internally in one of the Israeli snuff channels and it got into the hands of the right person.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It's not meant for the likes of you and me, it's meant for other people brainwashed into thinking this is just "putting down rabid dogs to protect ourselves from them" and who will be proud of this.

You can see some of this in how many appreciate footage from Ukraine were they kill Russians: some people actual enjoy seeing it, even feeling rightous pride in it, even though it's actual human beings dying in it and (IHMO) the well balanced humane take is that "thanks to Putin that is what has to be done, but that doesn't mean on has to like it".

So yeah, to the highly tribalist kind of people who have been brainwashed since they were children to see Palestinians as animals this kind of footage will elicit feelings of glee and pride in their "team" and that's why it's used as Propaganda.

[-] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

It's also important to consider when what you are seeing could be justified?

Did they perhaps just hide their weapons in a built-up area and the IDF was following them until they were in the open so they reduce the risk of collateral damage?

Or is this a case of poor discipline from the IDF, who decided to hit them because they were military age males traveling in a group?

Based on the video alone, either could be true.

A good rule to follow is that both sides are lying and when they are not, they are trying to deceive.

[-] charleroi2@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

Those bombs are not triggered with drones. They're coming with an angle, drones drop the bombs, don't fire them with a projectile. Video is highly suspicious

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@kbin.social 7 points 7 months ago

It's a recon drone that locates the target and observes the result of the strike.

[-] rdrunner@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

In the case of makeshift drones dropping grenades in Ukraine you'd be right. However, these aren't off the shelf drones repurposed for dropping bombs, these are strikes from military drones just like the ones the US uses regularly (wonder where Israel got theirs)
