State National Guards ordinarily fall under the control of their respective governors, but they can be federalized by a mechanism known as Title 10 status, which places them at the direct disposal of the president and defense secretary, with active duty officers taking over day-to-day command

Title 10 isn't even rare...

They do it for all types of shit, and Biden is fully within past usage if he does it here.

I'm cautiously optimistic he'll do the right thing here.

His donors don't want the instability of a full on secession

Let Texas secede, they'll learn just like UK with Brexit. Texit, if you will.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Nah, others will follow and they'll invent a reason to start a war.

Probably something like claiming the US owes them their taxes back.

If we give them money, they'll ask again later, if they don't they'll send peasants to "liberate" stuff from blue states.

This shit ain't a joke, and they're not going to just peacefully exist next to the US.

If we give them money, they’ll ask again later, if they don’t they’ll send peasants to “liberate” stuff from blue states.

Like how they "liberated" Fort Sumter.

Or how they "liberated" free blacks from free states, abducting them, and selling them as slaves.

That's the thing about secessionists: they think they're the only ones who can claim "rightful ownership" of... anything. Women? Minorities? Taxes? Land? They're all just property, and as such, ought to be theirs.

Secession is illegal

Don’t keep your hopes up, rarely does anything exciting happen in politics.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

You mean "exciting" like a fun thing like a rollercoaster?

Yeah, that's rare.

But "exciting" like getting mugged in an alley?

That seems to be all that's happening recently lol

But Biden going title 10 wouldn't even be fun exciting. It's the completely normal and expected thing to happen

[-] Nudding@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

We're watching the fall of Rome in real time and you don't think it's exciting?

Some decades, little happens. Some months, decades happen.
