Would smash Arachne, if she were DTF.
Between myths of Arachne and Medusa, Athena seems to be a bitch and not very wise at all. I suspect there's actually some context going on.
Though in Medusa's case, she was a gorgon before her human origin during the New 52s, and the Gorgoneion that adorns Aegis predates the whole Perseus thing. (Gorgoneions were a ward against evil from times immemorial before the oceans drank Atlantis and Poseidon was the all-father dude).
