Wut that is not even the case for Ubuntu. You're probably thinking of dash example:

sh -c '[[ true ]] &amp;&amp; echo ya' 
# sh: 1: [[: not found

bash -c '[[ true ]] &amp;&amp; echo ya' 
# ya
