ONA is conducting a letter writing campaign to draw attention to the hospital closure.

Folks of #Eugene and @eugene: Our only hospital on this side of the river is closing. The ER's last day is set to be Dec. 1. The Oregon Nurses Association has started this letter writing campaign to hopefully draw the attention of the OHA and Governor.

Please consider sending, even if just the pre-prepared form letter. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/save-eugenes-hospital

This kind of action bothers me.

We in America, Oregon, Lane County, and Eugene, do not live in a world where health care, housing, the economy, or near damn near anything critical to human life and well-being is funded by or run by any government at all. So complaining to the government, petitioning them, or blaming them, is pretty much useless and pointless.

The power of the world we live in today is held almost completely by corporations, business, and finance. Since Reagan in the 1980s, most of the things government used to do has been aggressively privatized. Businesses love to blame government, but corporations hold most or all the cards.

Tax revenues have been eroded so that the ability for government to be a positive force to do anything is near zero. Best they can hope to do is regulate... and often without funds to enforce the regulations.

So if you want to complain, then complain to the corporation that owns Peace Health. Not that it will make any difference, but at least you'd be pressuring the people who actually have the power to make the decisions.

@bamfic I would argue instead that it really doesn't matter what people do. The decision to close the hospital has already been made and probably won't be reversed. Starting from the assumption that no action will do anything for this, why should it matter what people do regarding this, as long as it's not hurting anyone?

(Okay I'll get off my soapbox now lol)
