I'm liking that Checo is proving on track that he can be the best number 2. Vamos Checo!
He was closest to his team mate?
He gained positions, kept it clean and widened the gap with Hamilton. Which is what he needs to do.
Ahh you mean number 2 in championship, not a number 2 driver.
I agree he put in a strong race, but I suspect his goose is cooked at this point. It's surely too late when you've got Ric, Law and Tsu all waiting eagerly in the wings.
If he can consistently finish 2-4 and qualify better, he can help play pit games. That's all that's needed to keep his spot. I don't think Tsunoda or Lawson are safe choices so he'd need to do many mistakes like in Mexico before that could become real imho.
You may well be right. I guess Tsuonda and Lawson would probably fare no better fundamentally and lack Perez's experience, but an on-form Ricciardo is a juicy prospect, surely?
Yeah, but if Perez can prove himself a known, consistent variable, I don't think it would make sense to switch it up. Neither would be a future WC so they need reliability from day 1 in 2024.
