The actor has once again taken aim at his former NBC sitcom: "I didn't want to be with those people."

That beast of a comment by Donald Glover. He is perceptive and also very nice. Love him

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 5 points 11 months ago

His approach to discourse is admirable. He's woke, which I'm not a fan of, but he's respectful and has so much empathy for people who disagree with him that one can't help but respect and admire that.

[-] CoggyMcFee@lemmy.world 53 points 11 months ago

You’re not a fan of being aware of social inequalities?

[-] PoliticalAgitator@lemm.ee 19 points 11 months ago

He doesn't actually know what he's talking about. He's flailing around trying to reconcile what the word actually meant with Republicans deciding to make it a trigger word for reactionaries.

He can't just say "I don't like him because I've been told to not like him", but that's functionally what it boils down to.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 1 points 11 months ago

In your own mind!

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

I am, but I'm not a fan of wokeness. I trust that you're not so dense that you can't tell the difference.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 28 points 11 months ago

It's not that you can't define it, no.....

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you are dense.

[-] explodicle@local106.com 25 points 11 months ago

No, it's certain that you're wrong and they're not dense.

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

You'd have to define it to be wrong, so take a leap rather than call people poo poo heads and run away.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 5 points 11 months ago

Look, considering you don't know what wokeness is, I'll spell it out for you: wokeness is critical theory, which states that, among other things, inequality is inherently bad or wrong, and must be rectified. You don't need to adhere to critical theory to observe that such inequalities exist though.

You can learn more about Critical Theory here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_theory

Or about critical theory applied to race, commonly known as Critical Race Theory or CRT, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_race_theory

That's my serious answer, with everything you need to know. After this we can be as silly or goofy as you like.

[-] EGG_CREAM@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago

Since your issue is with critical race theory, and you have stated in multiple comments that the problem with critical race theory is that it says inequality and hierarchy is bad, specifically when it comes to race, I guess its safe to assume you are a racist, then?

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 14 points 11 months ago

He's unabashedly a racist, consistently.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

If you adhere to CRT, I'm sure you would agree, even though I'm black, since under the CRT framework, it's not about hating races, but not advocating for equality of outcomes across ethnic lines. And this is how you get stuff like "conservatism is white supremacy" and whatnot.

It's all a bit silly, but if you're down with the silliness, go ahead. Call me, a black man, racist for disagreeing with Donald Glover, a man I greatly respect.

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago

LMFAO, do we have a c/asablackman yet? Go the fuck back to 4chan.

I promise you that you never knew anything about critical race theory before republicans told you to be afraid of it like a year ago.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

Three years ago :)

[-] strongarm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 months ago

It's not the same as critical theory, but it does have a crossover in concerns

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

Perhaps; did wokeness precede critical theory? Or did they merge at some point?

[-] strongarm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 11 months ago

No, they are totally not related, critical theory is from the 1930s, Woke is from 2010

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 1 points 11 months ago

Fair enough. So what's the difference between wokeness and critical theory? I thought they were more or less harmonious or synonymous.

[-] strongarm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 months ago

That, my dude, is something you will have to take a journey on.

[-] stillwater@lemm.ee 22 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Wait, what is woke then if it's not being aware of social inequalities?

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 3 points 11 months ago

In a quick sentence, wokeness is critical theory, in particular applied to race, known as critical race theory.

To observe inequalities is not woke; what is woke is to believe that all inequalities or power hierarchies are inherently bad.

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 17 points 11 months ago

What are some "good" inequalities?

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 3 points 11 months ago

I think a variety of levels of pay depending on job position, effort, or skill is a great example. Not all jobs are equal, so they should not all yield the same amount of pay.

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 11 points 11 months ago

Yeah, that's not what anybody means when they talk about inequalities.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 3 points 11 months ago

Interesting, since that's textbook income inequality.

What sorts of inequalities do you think of, from the perspective of critical theory?

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

I sincerely hope you're trolling... Have a nice day.

I highly doubt you've never tried methamphetamine. Every racist pretending to be black when they're called out for racism on the Internet is big into it at some point in their lives.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

I've never tried methamphetamine, although I believe I have ADHD and I certainly wouldn't be opposed taking an amphetamine at some point in the future

[-] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago

Holy shit are you 12?

[-] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 4 points 11 months ago

what is woke is to believe that all inequalities or power hierarchies are inherently bad.

That sounds like a thinly veiled way of saying you're a supremacist.

How can wokeness be a specific academic concept? That doesn't make sense, CRT is CRT and it's just an academic lens. And what's wrong with it anyway? Do you just not like acknowledging that America has the deck stacked against black people and really doesn't want to change that? Why do you think it's good to suppress an academic lens like CRT? What would you prefer is taught instead of that?

But what are some examples of social inequalities that are not inherently bad? Your other examples are not social inequalities. You're looking at something like suggesting what kinds of systematic racism are good actually, not looking at things like the difference in pay between an engineer and a janitor.

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 1 points 11 months ago

You would have to provide your definition of social inequalities for me to answer, since you don't think that my examples qualify as inequalities.

Turn off fox news and go outside

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 2 points 11 months ago

I hate Fox News. Newsnation is where it's at if you MUST watch the mainstream media but most corporate media sucks to be honest.

Genius level comment. Anyone who says something like this really just binge watches Fox News and has no idea what words mean.
