Finally test drove a car I liked and looked to be completely above board. I've never driven a diesel Pajero though so I could be wrong, but my cursory dig didn't bring up anything major. Fingers crossed the mech inspection says its all good because I really really liked it!
My folks had a petrol Pajero. Lasted over 300k KM. Great car, only downside was the turning circle of a tank. And it was thirsty. Just a heads up, Diesel maintenance is expensive. Mazda quoted me 10k in parts alone just to replace the injectors in my Diesel 6. So make sure you allow for a decent maintenance budget in case things do go wrong.
Yeah, I've heard the petrols are thirsty. I don't mind the added cost of a diesel mostly because I'm expecting it, plus for me the added cost outweighs a couple of things.
We love our 2014 diesel pajero. It replaced a very vintage Patrol. Much more car-like than the Patrol, but still capable of towing well and the little bit of bush driving we do.
The Pajero definitely is one of the more comfortable cars I've test driven. My only gripe was, and this could be a make and model issue, the steering wheel felt a little plasticy. Not a deal breaker though, if it truly annoys me I can always swap it out later down the track.
