I deleted all my comments/posts and they rolled them back :/
Can't believe it. They're becoming real motherfuckers right now. They seem hell bent on getting that IPO.
Someone would have to look at the terms and conditions. It's possible there's a clause like "anything you write is ours" in legal speak.
Wouldn't matter to GDPR, people have sued over much less, right to be forgotten is a thing, and you don't need a lawyer to do it. Could be worth everyone sending in a request to inundate them and they'll have to sift through them to follow the law correctly. Once received, any valid and legal request must be actioned within 60 days, and most companies take 15-30 just figuring out how to do so. We don't have to flood their legal department much to make them lose track of something, and if any of you are EU citizens, your request must be honored.
I'm not, so I guess all I can do is wish you good luck! I hope un-deleting comments does not just happen like that without repercussions.
How can i request the complete deletion of my data under eu law?
That would break GDPR and they could have a class suit on their hands, ToS can't override laws.
I wonder how legal that is, and if there's grounds for a class action
I have been wondering if I could use the GDPR like a bludgeon to get them to remove my shit for real, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through when my comments were overall just random thoughts that popped into my head and nothing useful.
Eh. You never know. People leave breadcrumbs of useful info in what they deem not useful. Further, things that you might not think twice about (ex: casually mentioning what car you drive, a coffee shop you went to that day) might reveal a lot of information (eg: your political leaning, rough geographic info etc). If you still have access to an old account, dig through your comments pretending to be a spy (or marketing agent) trying to learn as much about you as possible, with 0 prior knowledge - you might be surprised how much you learn.
I have done this to companies that pissed me off, asked for all the information they have on you, great way to get free USB drivers.
I deleted everything, and I am still finding things that aren't listed in my post history or comment history anymore. They are not listed on my profile.
