People who see enough “real” lose their ability to consume or be influenced by bullshit. You’ll see this in healthcare among experienced staff. People are often their authentic selves, for better or worse, when ill or in pain. More so, with staff members who spend the most time dealing directly with the people.

What happens is healthcare management loses their ability to bullshit or talk sideways to staff to placate them.

I feel like the people as a whole are becoming like that now. (Finally). In response to political spin. The “muzzle velocity” approach to news has accelerated that progression. People are generally done with bullshit and talking sideways from their politicians.

What will happen if democrats try anything less than authenticity, is they will likely cease to exist as a party. The “vote against” momentum is already dying.

I actually think Mamdani has helped accelerate this as well, proving that it’s possible to just do things citizens want by you know, doing them them takes so much air out of bought and paid for career politicians

It’s obviously not all him, but I do think the visibility and his overall authenticity is changing hearts and minds

Mamdani showed everyone that the Orphan Crushing Machine has an off switch & that the neolibs just had no interest in using it.

And he balanced the budget. Republicans do the opposite now when balancing the budget used to be their political war cry. And he did it right away, didn’t take long.

Republicans do the opposite now

Tbh, the Republicans haven't balanced a (national) budget in 80 years. They've all run deficits, while Democrats tend to run budget surpluses (or reduce the deficit if the previous GOP administration was particularly bad)

No, but now they’re no longer even mentioning it.

“What like it’s hard?”

And he does it fast too. Potholes get fixed within the week when residents alert the city about them. It completely undermines the narrative that government has to be so slow and useless at getting things done. That's a serious threat to politicians who now can't sit around doing nothing without the public asking why they can't do what Mamdani does. Even moreso that it's a socialist getting things done, something Americans have been so thoroughly trained to treat as a scary boogeyman until now.
