Both are fucking horrible.

But also, China does both. In 2023 they had over 700 million cameras tracking people.

Private: capitalist.
End result: authoritarianism.

If they subcontract, it confirms the capitalist/authoritarian connection.

This isn't to say a command economy cannot be under an authoritarian regime. We have examples of that too.
