Yeah I'm a nurse and this article tracks. I get callbacks on applications within a week of submission or sometimes same day. Are they good jobs? Maybe. But there's no shortage of them.

But this article also highlights something I've always said about cops, whose degrees are basically worthless according to this article. A degree isn't necessary for their job while it's literally illegal for me to not have one as well as a license that can be revoked if I fuck up bad enough.

Cops imo have a similar level of responsibility if not for health specifically definitely for safety. They should have to be licensed and that license should be overseen by a public safety board that can remove it. You should be able to maybe get a 3-6 month certificate or something to ticket people for parking in handicapped spots or noise disturbances but you should need at LEAST an associates to carry a gun in the protection of public safety, preferably a bachelors and in addition to martial arts it should cover everything from law, basic / developmental psych, basic first aid and how to identify when a disturbance is probably being caused by a medical problem that needs eval after it's been safely contained etc.

I do actually believe there is a need for public safety officials who can show up and stop people from injuring each other but we really need to up our expectations for ethics and competency.
