Yes, it is insulting; however, many veterans also voted for the twit.
Many who serve aren't heroic, they had no other options in their small, backwards, stupid towns
They don't immediately get smarter and virtuous simply because they were in the military
Sometimes they get worse, and commit war crimes ¯_(ツ)_/¯
There also is nothing heroic about the wars the United States has been fighting in the last decades. Fighting some forever war in the middle east because of George W. Bush is not heroic.
They were not smart but they knew what fascism was and did not want that for their country.
Trump is old, but he's not "avoided the WWII draft" old. He was a draft dodger in Vietnam.
