Lots of bad educational systems out there.

And you know what tbh a lot of it has to do with bad teachers. I had horrible history teachers, like many others. I remember hearing about the Byzantine empire, holy Roman empire, Ottoman empire in middle school... But it never really meant shit to me other than some names and dates to memorize, which I forgot a year later.

But I've played video games like Civ and Crusader Kings and heroes of iron where I start reading nation/empire descriptions, start googling and reading Wikipedia, start reading on random shit like WW1 no man's land and I'm fascinated by all the craziness in history. The Ottoman Empire was fucking massive and had sultans, and it wasn't even that fucking long ago!

I was taught so much in history classes that I didn't really understand until I developed an interest in them, like the Punic wars. This stuff is fascinating and it's taught so horribly.

These games inspired a lot of history lessons for me as well. Sometimes there's bad teachers and gaps in learning for all of us.

I agree with you. Education systems play a big role in wether people are educated or not and everything can't be blame on individual but we should accept it as normal and say such things as OOP.
