I'm interested in the source for that, the fact that we don't have president Harris speaks against that.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 23 points 5 days ago

it wasn't progressives who stayed home dolt

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

So we have president Harris and not Trump?

[-] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 16 points 5 days ago

FYI, Pew Research found that only 85% of Biden voters showed up in 2024. If all eligible voters had shown up, though, Harris would have lost with 45%.

[-] TaterTot@piefed.social 10 points 5 days ago

the fact that we don’t have president Harris speaks against that.

uhhh.... how? Like, it only "speaks" to the fact that Trump got more votes. It says nothing about the political demographics of the voters.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

i hate feeling conspiratorial talking about this, but there's been signs of electoral fraud (different from voter fraud (which is generally just one person). it happens at the other end of the system and is much worse) in that win. i have not had the time to delve deeply into it, but shit got a certain stink

[-] TaterTot@piefed.social 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

There was definite overt fraud with Elon (doing what was "apparently legally distinct" from) paying people to vote for Trump. And this time around they are overtly using their powers to rig the rules in their favor.

So if and when it comes out that less overt but far more nefarious electoral fraud occurred, I wont be too surprised.

And honestly, the magats (intentionally or not) played a brilliant hand by making sure claims of election fraud had become synonymous with insane conspiracy theorists in the 2020 election.

But I agree, it stinks bad.

[-] EnchiladaRaisins@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Take the evidence to court. Otherwise, rumors and feelings of elections being rigged only help amplify the asshole's Big Lie that it's rigged.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

patrick you really need to find actual hobbies

[-] raze2012@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

There is definitely stuff (relatively) silently going through the courts about it. But we really won't be able to do much about it until a new administration gets in.

It'll be good reflection one day, but it doesn't change much in the present.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 days ago

The anointed one gleefully embracing the most lethal neo-conservative partnership in the world, that Harris?

You speak of facts, but conveniently leave out the fact that Trump walloped her so badly he won by a wider margin than there were self-identified protest vote progressives to begin with. It literally made no difference how they voted.

I hope she runs again in ‘28 and has to face an actual primary vote where she will once again receive single digit support. Who knows, maybe if she moves even further right she can pick up some more maga voters and break into the double digits lmao.

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

The question is would she have been wolloped if the party was united behind her?

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 14 points 5 days ago

That question doesn’t make sense. You might as well be asking why Democrats didn’t rally behind Nikki Haley. Still, my answer remains the same:

It’s wrong to blame the voters for a garbage candidate. Please stop doing that, and demand better of our “representatives” instead.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

It’s wrong to blame the voters for a garbage candidate.

that logic excuses voters for trump and i'm not ready to do that.

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

*it's wrong to blame the voters for a garbage candidate that they didn't want

Repubs went trump because their base demanded it with insurrections. Dems went harris against the will of their people. That's the difference.

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Vote blue no matter who, I would have voted Mallory, Haley, or Abdul. Now that things are decided I'll vote Abdul like.most if not all Michigan dems.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 9 points 5 days ago

I voted for her, every progressive I know did too. Maybe you're thinking of the protest votes against genocide? I'm not sure if they were progressive.

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

The protests (at least online) all came from progressives so I can only assume that the split democatic vote cost Kamala.

[-] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 8 points 5 days ago

You know what they say about assuming...

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

nope. progressives aren't radical leftists. the radical leftists who thought trump would be better for palestine did that.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

I didn't know they were progressive I thought they were liberal for some reason. Thanks for clearing it up. For what it's worth, people tried to talk them out of it, tried hard.

https://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/17/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-242819

Sanders appeared to be referring to a YouGov survey that found that 24 percent of those who voted for Clinton during the 2008 primary backed McCain over Democratic nominee Obama in the general election.

https://www.wbur.org/npr/545812242/1-in-10-sanders-primary-voters-ended-up-supporting-trump-survey-finds

Fully 12 percent of people who voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries voted for President Trump in the general election. That is according to the data from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

So I'm tracking HRC said Bernie (the progressive) didn't bring his supporters around in '16 like she did for Obama in '08.

The second link won't load.

It doesn't surprise me they didn't fall in line I didn't at that time either.

I'm being argumentative here for a couple reasons, I just don't think MI dems can push him over the line since he's not doing all that well in the places he needs to do well like metro Detroit, so he needs places like Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. Both of those cities will go his way but the counties those cities reside in might not which is a problem.

Second I enjoy trolling onlime progressives for their holier than thou because they seem to think that the party needs to adopt all of their views even if a generic democrat vote with the party a vast majority of the time.

We can argue that the votes they don't follow party line are the important votes, my argument is they did nothing to try to earn that vote just expected it to happen.

In the end the party is endorsing his run so it seems there's not too much to complain about.

[-] Count042@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

She didn't bring her supporters around for '08. Remember PUMA's? Pepperidge farms remembers.

A higher percentage of Bernie voters voted for Clinton in 2016 than Clinton voters voted for Obama in 2008.

You're literally just making shit up here completely to justify your position.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

I enjoy trolling onlime progressives

first off, on lime?

second, fuck right off. you're nothing but disingenuous snark and attacking the very people who overwhelmingly come out every time. the problem is NOT progressives.

I enjoy mocking on lime chuds like you.
