Is this really an ADHD thing? I'm pretty sure the human brain ignoring repeated stimuli is a universal thing.

Most ADHD symptoms are things neurotypicals also deal with from time to time, only much worse and much more frequently.

This is one of those symptoms.

So you don't have a source. Got it. You just wanted karma.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

My sources are doctors, therapists, psychiatrists, and countless medical research papers is my point.

Weirdly enough, the people diagnosing, treating, and researching ADHD for a living know more about it than some random edgelord calling themselves "modern medicine isn't" does ๐Ÿ™„

So link some research papers if they are so countless. I am more than willing to change my mind given evidence. Otherwise... you are just another karma whore making a meme and claiming to have all this data that you can't be bothered to share. We should all just believe you. Why don't you claim to be a doctor next. Or better yet, say you are a researcher on this very subject. And you are soo busy, you just can't find the time to post a source. Though somehow, you had the time to post a meme.

The thing that differentiates between regular neurotypical people and those with ADHD is the last D, Disorder.

Everyone has little quirks and whatnot, different ways of seeing the world and thinking, but when it starts affecting everyday life is when it becomes a Disorder.

Another day, another person coming in to a neurodiverse community saying, "But that's just human."

Caution: there's only one rule in this community and some might say your comment is breaking it.

Gatekeep much.

The phrase "visual exhaustion" has to do with eyestrain. This meme or whatever is completly made up.

The sysmptom described is an energy saving mechanism of the human brain. I have seen no evidence that is any more pronounced in people with adhd.

I grow weary of everyone blaming everything in their life on adhd. We have special challenges, but when people blame a challenge that everyone has on adhd, it causes people without adhd to think adhd is a farce. You are helping that along by trying to gatekeep someone who is basically asking for a fact check.

Had the same thought. If it is, does that mean post-it notes on the monitor actually works for people?

[-] db_null@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

They do not. I have worked half a decade as coach/manager in customer support where certain things had to be said during calls.

Post-it on the screen will be effective until the next lunch break, then it disappears into the void for me and the 100+ people I worked with over the years experienced the same. I always recommended a reminder to pop up, having to click to get rid of it made it effective for an extra couple of days.

It definitely is, but it's got way worse consequences for ADHD people, because we cannot remind ourselves to pay attention as easily. Well spotted, though.
