Farmer says 5 sinkholes have emerged in the area since April. Trans Mountain says they've been stablized

What exactly is causing the sinkholes here? Is this where the ground isn’t stable enough for their boring equipment to tunnel through, and the tunnel is collapsing in places? Or is something else going on?
