What game did you hate even after sinking a lot of time into it?

I've been revisiting anno 2205, infamously the ugly duckling of the Anno series of RTS games. I don't mind so much the fact that it's different, lacks customisation and random map generation - I'm bothered because the game is so slow to progress through on challenge settings, and it feels like a game designed just to artificially waste your time; in other anno games, you can always pull tricks to dig yourself out of economic crisis - selling off assets and surplus goods, completing quests for other parties, or taking loans. 2205 is very very confined in terms of what you can do to financially recover in the early game and forces you into a lot of military events.
Battlefield 2.
I only got into it because my gaming friends did. It was never very good, but my friends liked it because it was a much slower game compared to the arena shooters we played before and they wouldn't admit their reflexes were getting bad. The game isn't very realistic or very fun. You can bend realism for fun gameplay or you can have an unbalanced game if it's for realism, but BF2 was neither.
oh and another thing. The official maps are very repetitive and because stat tracking only works on them, they would be the only ones ever played. I've played some custom maps that were much better at LAN parties, but those rarely got played because a bunch of grown adults needed to have their rank for all to see.
