Really specific genres come from the places you listed.
"Specific genres" you mean hip-hop/rap and country? Some of the most popular and culture-driving genres? I think from a music perspective, they're far far more influential than LA and NYC even if some of the legacy record labels are headquartered there.
NYC and LA were already on the list! :)
