i switched my coffee for a B complex gummy in the AM and a B12+D after lunch. It's been working gangbusters for my mood. Probably too much B vitamins but idgaf

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Huh. I do a B12 (missing the absorbtive parts) every other day and it's not that noticeable now that my b levels are right. I wonder if I take a bit more...

[-] _fryerDan@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 hours ago

I'm a raging alcoholic so i need the extra Bs

[-] runner_g@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 23 hours ago

vitamin b is water soluble so any excess is just getting peed out, so you're safe there. the ones you gotta look out for are a, d, and e. those are all fat should've and can build up inside you body and eventually cause issues

[-] Lupus108@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

Check whats in you B complex, if B6 is a high dosage you should check in with your doctor, prolonged intake of high B6 doses can cause minor nerve damage. While you're at it let them check your potassium levels, too much Vitamin D can lead to drastic Potassium levels which can cause health problems. At least in Germany the blood work for both is about 25€ and you tune your dose to what's safe :)

It's probably safe but some people metabolize those vitamins differently and the tests are quick and simple.

I wish I lived in a developed nation where I could just "go get blood work done" for a nominal fee or be able to afford to care about long term effects instead of surviving day to day. Not sarcastic, I legit wish that

I feel for you, sometimes I forget to be appreciative for things like this.

The whole thing was as uncomplicated as it can be. I was at the doctor's for a regular checkup, during the little interview I mentioned I was taking vitamin d to alleviate the symptoms of almost no sunlight during the winter (working nights), she then explained the vitamin d - potassium relation and took some blood to check. I got the results a couple days later via email and that was that. As it was during a regular checkup it was also free of charge.

It's awesome to be in a place where I don't even have to actively seek out that kind of medical attention. I got an email reminding me of the checkup with some possible appointments, I clicked on one, two weeks later I mention the vitamin d in passing and it gets tested in a timely manner for free. Easy as that. I had bowel movements more complicated than that.

My father grew up in (West) Germany, and I studied German as a child (Hallo! Ich bin MnemonicBump und ich komme aus America woher kommst du?, etc, etc), and I really wanted to move to Hamburg when I was a teen. But it turns out that your country doesn't want an undereducated neurotic American, so alas, I'm stuck here.

Yeah, most of the EU prefers their immigrants to have real skills they want, like Medical Doctors, PhD holders, and be on the younger side to provide all the tax revenue they can get.

But they aren't really in need of low skill workers. And it doesn't matter where you come from. They got all the neurotic home-grown waiters they need.

[-] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 hours ago

real skills

PhD holders

Medical Doctors sure, but c'mon. Education level is not indicative of any real life skill

[-] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago

so which special skills do you have?

[-] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 43 minutes ago* (last edited 41 minutes ago)

I can play 25 different instruments, record and produce music at a professional level, I can direct photography for a motion pictures, write television news copy, code in 5(ish) different languages, mill lumber from raw timber, pickle, dry, can, and gernally preserve food, gut and fillet SO MANY different types of fish, build structures out of earthen building material, I can wire photovoltaic panels in series or parallel and am familiar with both 13v and 24v system, and I can do pretty much anything to a car that doesn't require a lift or a hoist.

But are any of those special without the little paper that says you can do them?

Edit: And as of last year, I can spin yarn from raw fibers, weave fabrics from that yarn, and sew clothes from pattern from that cloth.

[-] kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml 1 points 32 minutes ago

so why dont you get a trade school diploma for one of those?

should be simple enough if you already have experience

the reason they ask for diplomas is because it's difficult to prove someones competence if they dont have that piece of paper, unfortunately

[-] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 20 minutes ago

Because school is expensive and time-consuming and I'm already working full time to BARELY get by. I love school (well, I love learning, but it's simply not an option for me at this point in my life. Obviously I've looked into it (and have a fair amount of student debt to prove that I've tried more than once), but I always have to make the choice between going to school or eating and paying rent, and I usually want to eat and have a place to live.

Do they have caffeine too though? It seems like the B vitamin + caffeine combo is very common.
