That's what I thought.
So what's with all the vitriol towards someone who's literally brain damaged? It seems really hard to blame him.

[-] cAUzapNEAGLb@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

I wouldnt be mean to him if he stepped down from power, but hes holding onto power despite his incapacity, despite his total change of priority and alliances from what he told his electors

He is harming and misrepresenting his state and constituents

[-] Steve@communick.news 1 points 2 days ago

But isn't his refusal to step down just another symptom?

[-] ultranaut@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yes, the whole situation is quite sad. There have been whistleblowers from his office who have shared how bad he has gotten, and there have been multiple police incidents now from his dangerous driving. I think he finally alienated everyone who genuinely cared about him or believed in him before the stroke, the only people left around him are the ones exploiting his diminished capacity for their own ends. I expect him to kill himself in a car crash honestly, he is notorious for driving like a total maniac since the stroke. I guess he enjoys driving but now that he has poor impulse control and other issues from the brain damage he is a very dangerous driver yet refuses to stop even though he could be driven anywhere he wants.

there are a lot of ways that strokes can permanently change your life, including physical and mental deficits, but suddenly accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid and abet a genocide is simply not a stroke symptom.

also if we're gonna get all misty eyed over this poor little politician who had a stroke, wheres the compassion for all the men women and children all over the middle east who have received permanent brain damage as a direct result of legislation that this man- who is alert and fucking oriented, knows exactly who and where he is and what he is doing- voted for?

wheres the compassion for all the men women and children all

Same place.
Are you saying I can't have empathy for multiple people?
Or that you can't?

[-] Overkrill 1 points 7 hours ago

the man you are expressing concern for has personally aided and abetted the killing of thousands of civilians. you aren't acknowledging his vile misdeeds, only telling the people who understand this and are justifiably upset with him to give him a pass on all these murders because he had a stroke.

grievous loss of ability seems to matter a lot more for you when it happens to a rich white senator.

[-] Steve@communick.news 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

When I see people blaming the thousands of civilians he's personally aided and abetted the killing of for what happened to them, I'll defend them also.

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

If i'm your driver, I have a stroke and immediatelly star driving erratically, in the opposite direction you are going, refuse to stop and reply to anything you say with "fuck off", would you still hold the same opinion?

people voted for Dr. Jekyll but got Mr. Hyde, the stroke is not his fault but staying on and shitting on the people that voted for him is entirely his fault and deserves all the nasty stuff people surely put in his food

[-] Steve@communick.news 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes. It's a problem to deal with for sure. But hating on someone who's disabled for their disability doesn't make sense. It's not his fault he can't understand what he's doing.

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

if he is disabled then he should not be in office, full stop

[-] Steve@communick.news 2 points 2 days ago

Agreed. As soon as the extent of his injury was known, he should have been removed as unfit, and a new special election should have begun.

[-] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Another piece of shit asshole apologist, it doesn't make the world any better to give them a pass because you feel bad about it being a happenstance.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Old him is dead. New him sucks ass.

[-] Steve@communick.news 1 points 2 days ago

That's not an unreasonable way look at it.
It would be nice if it were really that simple.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

You're asking for sympathy from the man who's gone to be applied to the harmful man that's here. Brain damage isn't like a regular injury. It can change the core of your personality. That's sad, but the person we should be sad for is his prior self and his loved ones.

This new guy is a few years old and a huge asshole to people who actually deserve sympathy. Basically everyone close to him other than his wife has left. And she has reportedly been fighting with him on his rightward turn.
