The couch is not as low as it looks! I'm just holding the phone far down so the console can be in view.
I recently finished FF2 and it was my first game played fully in Japanese. I understood 50% or so of the dialogue, meaning I needed to spend a lot of time with my dictionary. I think in a way this extra time spent made me appreciate the game more and build a connection with the characters, compared to if I had just breezed through it in English!
If you liked the somewhat unique combat system, where stats increased depending on character action, then you should know that it spun off into its own series called SaGa.
The first three SaGa games were on the GameBoy and released internationally as Final Fantasy Legends (1-3). The first one got a remake on the WonderSwan Color (Japan only, but fan translation exists), and all three also got Japan only remakes on the DS. I believe the second and third have effectively complete fan translations as well.
I've only played the first and the third, many years ago, and only beat the third one. That said, they were great!
