I've played about 8 hours of resynced. The game is good. I replayed the original last year, and everything looks and feels better.

While there is a cash shop now, I'm pretty sure the original had that stupid animus store where you could spend cash to buy credits to buy stuff. Personally, I'd rather they just put a price on it. I can't even really fault them for putting the time saver shit in for an extra cost. If you only have a limited amount of time available to play paying a few bucks to reduce the friction and make it more fun can be worth it. I'd be upset if it was included by default. I want to go follow the wind and see what adventures I find.

My only complaints so far are that a bunch of shit that looks climeable isn't, and the ship upgrades are really locked behind story. I want to pillage now.

The problem with this opinion is that the friction exists in the game because of the cash shop. If they had decided not to have a cash shop at the design stage then they also wouldn't have implemented the friction that you get to skip by paying money.

So you can either pay money to make it more fun like you said, or Ubisoft could make a proper game and have it be fun without you having to pay for the game more than once.

But what about the poor shareholders?

Given how Ubislop stocks fell in recent years, they are properly poor and that's good.

I want that friction. I want to have to explore to find stuff. I don't want to just be chasing markers on a map. I don't currently have any constraints on my time, so randomly swimming to an island to see if there's anything there is part of the charm.

On the flip side, I totally get if you only have a few hours a week to play, and don't want to waste it doing shit that doesn't pay off.

If you only have a limited amount of time available to play paying a few bucks to reduce the friction and make it more fun can be worth it. I’d be upset if it was included by default. I want to go follow the wind and see what adventures I find.

Imagine if there existed something like an option to play the game more casually and increase drops/xp so people could play the game at their own pace. We could call them "Gameplay Options" and have the users select them before the game starts (and allow them to change them later too). Revolutionary, I know.

This happened with Shadow of War, they claimed the microtransactions did not affect the game design, but when they removed the microtransactions, they streamlined the end-game to have far less grind.

The original did have a cash shop as well. Having not played the remake, I understand that the cash shop now includes cosmetics, which the original did not iirc. The original cash shop had in game resources and bonuses.

Did paying a few bucks in the cash shop give you a sense of pride and accomplishment?
