Great article. I highly recommend Corey Doctorow’s book called ‘Enshittification’ for more on this phenomenon
This isn't really enshittification, though. People used to always have the right to self repair. That right got curtailed once it became a threat to profit margins.
This is a law issue.

private ownership caused the issue? so you dont see this happening if the government was in charge of everything?
enshittification would be a non issue without the profit motive.
