Thats giving trump too much credit, he's not smart enough to realize that other people are more intelligent than he is.

He's incredibly insecure about it, and feels the need to announce his own brilliance all the time, because he hears people using words he doesn't understand, discussing concepts that are beyond him, talking about complex situations without reducing them to black and white

Exactly, they are playing him, Xi Jinping gives him the military welcome / parade that he can't can't get at home, he doesn't like Airforce 1, because Obama flew in it so the Qatari royal family gifts him a new 747. He's not getting the respect he thinks he deserves by the western world, so he's going to autocrats and dictators who are all too happy to butter him up with trinkets for a sweet deal.
