[Discussion] Which Soulslike will you be playing this weekend and which Soulslike left you disappointed? Why? (lemmy.zip)

Still not in the mood for soulslikes right now. I think I'm not in the right head space for a long-winded, several hour long singleplayer experience right now. Open to suggestions tho!

For me it's probably Lords of the Fallen remake as well as Thymesia. I've heard great things about both, but I didn't like either. I got to the first boss of LotF and uninstalled the game because I didn't like how floaty and unsubstantial the combat felt. The gimmicky ideas were fine, I liked that there are distinct starting classes which actual difference between one another, but that's it.

Thymesia was a little too indie for me, sadly. I liked the ideas the combat presented and it felt kinda like Bloodborne in concept and idea, but that's pretty much it. The game has a certain 00s feel to it which I did like tho!

LotF remake feels good if you value exploration. The map is even more "interconnected" than in DS1, and quests are cool too. But unfortunately the studio behind this game went full alt-right. I won't buying the second part

I probably didn't get far enough to really enjoy it opening up. A sign of souls-like fatigue might be when the first levels seem to take too long conveying their design language, if you know what I mean. For example, I didn't feel that way about Mortal Shell on its first area.

You know that makes sense. It's always the people obsessed with teutonic crusaders, isn't it?

Solaire looks like teutonic crusader too, but he's chill, and DS series are amazing. But yeah, there might be correlation

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
