On March 2, customers across Amazon marketplaces saw incorrect delivery times when adding items to their carts. The incident led to nearly 120,000 lost orders and roughly 1.6 million website errors. Amazon's AI tool Q was one of the primary contributors that triggered the event, according to an internal review.

We risk "AI" destroying civilization not because it is stupid, but because we are. It doesn't matter what an LLM churns out, if people weren't daft enough to trust it it couldn't do any harm (environmental impact aside obviously. That could be addressed by switching them off when we stop using them).

good point--ultimately we'll be the ones who cause our extinction through dumbness. we assume that AI is at least as smart as the humans we're replacing with it, while really, it's just more efficient than we are at wrecking things
