I watched a couple episodes and they took the parts I liked the least about Discovery and made a whole show about them.

I concluded it’s not really made for me so I’m rewatching Lower Decks

That’s a bad sign given how much I dislike Discovery and enjoy Lower Decks, thanks

For what is worth, they are doing a much better job of it. It's never gonna be my favorite trek, but it's not bad.

My wife, who is a Trek fan for the past 15 years or so, likes it. She didn't care for Picard or Discovery.

Can you please elaborate a bit more, because I really didn't like discovery and I don't want to be disappointed again.

It’s much more focused on the emotional development and relationships between the characters. Academy feels like a teen drama, which isn’t something I liked even when I was a teenager.

I’m going to give it a miss in that case, I’ve never enjoyed that sort of drama either.

Thx. I get it. Not for me either.

But I'm not worried. For sure something gritty and political will be made at some point in the future.

There’s still Strange New Worlds, which is one of my absolute favorites. Especially the musical episode.

Academy is basically Harry Potter in Space.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

That’s exactly what the showrunners were going for.

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

which is exactly why Star Trek needs new showrunners.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I think one of the problems a lot of franchises face is that there’s one, singular showrunner.

Why not open it up to multiple people, all able to tell different stories the way they want? Let a million Star Trek flowers bloom, I say.

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

As long as they keep the spirit of Star Trek, which barely any of the modern shows do.

Lol yeah, this comment just confirms that you only watched half of it.
