Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

At least Apple makes decent hardware (and questionable software practices). But at least macOS is true Unix. With WSL now I'm not really sure which experience is better.
I'd still take Linux any time.
Apple products are shit. There is no way around Linux for anyone with half a brain.
They have the best ARM CPUs in any consumer product and very good software/hardware security. I hate Apple because their shit is overpriced and locked-down but that doesnt mean its garbage.

I ran some benchmarks the other day and I was amazed by just how powerful and efficient the M4 Max in my Mac Studio is vs the 9800x3d in my desktop. Not only did the entire system use 2/3 the power of the 9800, while scoring well over 1.5x more. And then the system goes to idle and uses less than 10 watts. Less than just the 9800 at idle.

Yes I'm falling for their marketing by specifically hating macs for 20 years, realizing they're better than windows, using them for work daily and hating every annoyance of a mac, and finally shunning everything else in favor of Linux on every device possible. Yeah man I'm a mark!

Agreed. ipads and iphones being locked as a platform, i would never buy them. The PCs? You can install Linux and be happy with it (if you're lucky enough).

I hate Apple because of it's walled-garden practices, and even I'm tired of your rants about it. Yeah, I would never (again) buy an Apple product, but they know how to mix hardware, software and device integration like nobody else. If we want civil conversation and accurate info, we have to be objective. Additionally, Mac computers have a very specific use case, in my opinion, for everything else, any Linux distro blows Mac and Windows out of the water with not much effort.
I know several 😅 And me who are using an iPhone SE 2020 only for testing and learning the shitty system, can't understand how the F people love iOS. I have also tried macOS. Hated it.
I had to start using it again for work. It's improved. It has a Unix terminal now. Still annoying as fuck in a lot of ways, and the community sucks. A lot of stuff that you can get for free on Linux costs money, and even though some Linux software should work in theory, in practice it does not.
It is a really good system for media production
For hobbyists maybe. Can't do anything Windows can do, so both suck equally. Adobe CC runs on Linux.
Yeah great point. In Hollywood they use wine. Definitely not ubiquitously all-Mac shops everywhere, yeah definitely not that. Every media company definitely uses all Linux lmao
