Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
Trump wants escalation and violence. Then he can use the Insurrection Act and it’s all over. Remember these are swing states being targeted.
Not saying any of this is ok or justified, but it is part of a pressure cooker strategy and all the state governors know it.
I got news for ya: the martial law and brutal oppression of all American people is inevitable if MAGA isn't stopped. It's not a matter of them only doing it if we get out of hand. Every day is another step they take toward the goal of total subjugation.
Honestly? I agree.
But you also have to pick and choose a battlefield, as it were. The christofacists have pretty much the entirety of the news media behind them. That is why people globally insist "nobody is resisting" because... those protests never get any air time. And it is nothing new. Look how fast the news media was to condemn Trayvon Martin (and the many others like him) as violent gangbanging thugs while completely ignoring the lunatic who stalked and murdered him.
Look at Minnesota. The people being murdered are poets and nurses. And that is building up outrage to the point that even the news media can't run a smear campaign fast enough to stop (localized) general strikes.
Contrast that with gunning down people who are screaming "wildcats" and shooting back. It becomes "both sides are bad" and we roll in the military to make sure there is no more unrest. And while the LA Riots were not as violent as the media wanted to portray... there was a LOT of footage to distract people from Rodney King.
As a bit of hope, I suggest people look at how the Influencers are handling this. No, not fucking Hasan. Outlets like MinnMax are a great case study. Roll back two years and Ben Hanson was more or less stiill toeing the Gamergate era line of "we are apolitical and here to enjoy games". But as things have gotten much worse, he (caught up with some of his contemporaries) and has become explicitly political and making sure that the audience is aware of what is going on in Minneapolis.
Yes, doing a fundraiser... is a real liberal ass thing to do. But the point is less the money (which genuinely does help) and more forcing people to understand what is going on. Because it is way too easy to duck into our comfort zones when the world is collapsing around us... we have been doing that for decades. But when those comfort zones make sure people understand? It stops being "Ugh, fucking Anderson Cooper is yapping again" and instead becomes "My online personality I have a parasocial relationship with is just a normal person like me. Why are they worried?"
And... that goes a LONG way towards doing what the news media SHOULD be doing. So that when the next person is murdered... because there will be a next one, people understand that it is a human being who was killed and not some fentanyl dealing monster who just happens to look like a school teacher.
