I can't imagine this being a good thing. A past article quoted somebody as basically saying people would be trusted to use their best judgment to keep their vehicles in a safe operating condition.

This doesn't even help low-income folks because the fee isn't going away, the name is just changing.

Doesn't seem like a great idea seeing Texas drivers, but I was shocked to learn only like 15-20 states have mandatory vehicle inspection programs and cars 25+ years old registered as antiques didn't have to do it anyways. So maybe it's not as important as I thought and at least I don't have to go in the shop once a year and get upsold
